The Special Police Unit for Woman and
Children (SPUWAC) has been organising self-defence training programmes, under
the Sashakti Scheme of Delhi Police, for girls and women in Delhi to empower
them and in order to ensure women safety.
Over 818,920 girls and women have been
trained through this initiative, including 208,125 in 2017 alone. Encouraged by
the immense popularity of these programmes, SPUWAC started organising Summer
Camp during summer vacations with intent to involve every section of general
public in this intiative so that any girl and women in the area could
participate.
Besides imparting self-defence
techniques, training to girls/women at each venue, organising separate shows of
Nukkad Natak and National Award winning short film Komal was screened as part
of the Nirbheek initiative.
After running successfully for 15 days,
the camp culminated at Sant Nirankari School, Sant Nirankari Colony here
presided over by Special Commissioner of Police Sanjay Beniwal and attended by
other senior police officers.
Certificates of participation along
with sanitary napkins were distributed to 500 girls to mark the World Menstrual
Hygiene day, said DCP Esha Pandey.
Making women cops fit
The Central District Police organised a
seminar on Smart and Fit Police’ for women personnel at Mata Sundari College.
